I mentioned this concept in my article 10 Creative Ways to Fall In Love With Life, but believe it is worth going over and expanding on because it is such an important idea, can help you to see the bright side of life, and really get more out of your journey on this planet.
Life is a journey, it’s a voyage and as time goes by you get to see different things and experience different situations. You get to go through experience after experience and once they are gone they are gone.
You may have ups and downs as this world keeps moving forward. You may have large changes in your life and frankly you many not like where some of them are taking you. You may want to cling back to the past and go back to how your life used to be.
But no matter what situation you are in now, remember that it will end. Things will change and you will find yourself in a different situation later on.
As time goes by the experiences you are facing today slowly fade away and are replaced by newer ones.
You will never be here again. NEVER! Even if you wanted to come back to the past and change things around or do it a little differently you can’t. We simply haven’t created anything that can change the past or fix something we have done once we have done it.
No matter what situation you are currently in or what you are experiencing you will only get the chance to experience it once. You will only get one shot to make the most out of it and once that shot is gone, then it is gone for good.
For every major change in your life, every big obstacle that comes your way, or every gift that is brought into your journey, don’t think of it as an ending, because it is not. It is the beginning of your new life.
“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” Robert Frost
Think about where you are now and how lucky it is that you get to experience life in a new way. And wonder how you can best take advantage of your situation, because there is always an opportunity. It doesn’t matter what your situation is, it is simply giving you the chance to try something new and to experience your life in a new way.
If you are going through a divorce, think about how wonderful it is that you get to go out there and flirt with new people. You get to go back on the market and have some fun.
If your business is failing, think about how much you have learned and get excited by how you are able to start your next adventure and build something even better.
If you have just lost your job be thankful that you have the opportunity to find other jobs and to experience and learn something new.
Don’t be mad at changes in your life. We all face changes, life is full of change. Instead look for the opportunity, be thankful for the great experiences you have had in your past and be thankful for the great experiences that you will have in your future.
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Dr. Seuss
But most of all, be thankful for the opportunity that you are given today to learn and to grow.
Whether you are on top of the world or you are climbing out of the gutter, realize that you will never be here again. Life goes on, the experiences you are having today will never return, so make the most out of them. Live for today, and live as if you will never get a second shot, because you won’t!
