Tell Yourself It Will Be Ok

My girlfriend’s dog had just ran away. She had heard it was at the pound so we went on our way to pick him up. Suddenly she had tons of unfounded worried. She worried that they put her dog to sleep by mistake or that it wasn’t even her dog in the pound. Who knows, what could have happened.

Coming back to reality none of those things had actually happened yet. In fact none of those things ended up happening. She ended up stressing herself out over nothing when she should have been calm and listened to me when I said everything will be ok.

I’m not saying anything bad about my girlfriend. I have worried plenty of times myself about things that didn’t happen. But it is time to take a step beyond that. It is time to stop worrying and start telling ourselves that everything will be ok, we will be fine, and we can handle anything that life throws at us.

In fact here are 6 reasons to quit worrying and just tell yourself that everything will be fine.

1. It Lets You Come Back To Reality

When you worry you get easily scared about things that haven’t even happened yet. You start to think about all the things that could happen regardless of how unlikely it is that they will. Instead of being scared of what is possible, simply take a step back and come back to reality.

When you keep a cool and rational mind about what is actually happening you can plan your next move. You can decide what you want to do and how you will go about doing it, instead of worrying about all the things that could go wrong.

There will always be issues that can occur, but worrying about them isn’t going to solve anything. You need to take action and try your best. Live your life by what is actually going on, not by what you worry about.

2. Less Stress

The more you worry about things that haven’t even happened yet the more stressed out you will be. Stress can lead to major health problems, more scares, and simply a less fulfilled life. There are always ways to reduce stress, but the best option is to never have the stress to begin with.

Life is stressful enough without us adding on more of it into our lives by worrying too much. Quit worrying and focus on the good, your body will thank you, when you are not having an early heart attack.

3. Clear Thinking

When you focus on the bad you have a very blurred vision of reality. Suddenly all you see is the bad and you refuse to see life as how it really is. When you worry about something, everything you see becomes part of that problem. It just like the old saying goes, when all you have is a hammer, every problem resembles a nail.

When you clear your mind of all your worries and focus on life as it is, you can focus on the good and live life as it really is, rather than how you make it out to be.

4. It Makes You More Productive

What we accomplish in life is directly related to how much we do. Who do you think accomplishes more, the guy who is motivated to achieve and stays positive at all times, or the guy who sits inside his house wearing a tin foil hat and worrying about the future?

I’m not saying we shouldn’t be concerned about the future, but we can’t spend all of our time worrying about it. If you have any goals of things you want to accomplish in your life, you will be able to get a lot farther by doing things than about things. I’d rather be a productive man than a scared man any day of the week,

5. It Helps You Adapt

When you worry about what will happen in the future your only option is to sit back and to wait to see if it happens or not. If you stop worrying and spend your time improving yourself, your abilities, and your position in life, you will be better able to embrace change and take advantage of what is happening, instead of crying about it.

Life is a game, you need to play it and see how the cards fall. You can’t do that while you are curled up in beetle position with your thumb in your mouth.

6. Not Worrying Gives You The Best Of Both Worlds

If what you are worrying about doesn’t happen you will be better off by not worrying about it. You will probably get more done, meet more people, and live an all-around better life.

If what you are worrying about will happen and it is unstoppable, why worry about it. You will never be here again, do you want to spend the little time you have on this earth worried about the future? Or do you want to spend what little time you have enjoying life and dealing with each problem as they come along? I’d rather live the worry freeway and focus on my passions than focus on my worries any day of the week.

That doesn’t mean be a complete idiot in life and not dodge the bullet that is coming your way. By all means take precausions about the future, but once those are set, forget about them and focus on living today. You will be glad you did.

We as a society spend so much time worring and stressing about things we have no control over…accept and let things happen, learn from them and grow from them.

It would be easy to say that mindfulness is the answer to worrying. If you’re truly immersed in the present moment, there wouldn’t be any reason to fixate on what might be coming. But I suspect that it’s inevitable we’ll do that from time to time. We’re only human, after all.
